Year 5

Welcome to our Year 5 page!

Miss Page and Mrs Mason are excited to share more learning adventures with you this term. Please take a look at our knowledge organiser to find out what we are learning about.

We will endeavour to keep you up to date with what we’re up to through this page, our Twitter account @FoleyPAcademy and our Class Dojo account.

Just a few reminders about our class routines and our expectations:

1. PE

This will be on Wednesdays, however PE kit should be in school every week day. PE kit is a plain white t-shirt and black shorts/jogging bottoms with pumps or plain trainers. Appropriate clothing should be worn during cold weather.

2. Forest School

For the group of children who partake in these sessions, it will take place for the first hour on Friday mornings. The children should come in wearing the appropriate clothing (long sleeved top and trousers, with extra layers during cold weather) and bringing wellies and, if they have it, waterproof over-clothes.

3. Reading

This is homework and we expect the children to read, and have written evidence of this, at least three times per week. It is vital that the children read regularly to develop their understanding of vocabulary and comprehension of texts. Reading regularly impacts hugely on reading and writing attainment.

4. Homework

Learning log tasks need to be in and completed to a high standard by the expected date given when it is set. We encourage creativity and thoroughly enjoy seeing a range of individual pieces. Plenty of time will be given to complete the learning log tasks.

5. Times tables

Times table practise is also homework. Times tables are very important for supporting our mental and written maths work. Year 5 children are expected to know all of the 12 times tables with immediate recall. Your child has a Times Tables Rockstars username and password so that they can play online daily. Please encourage this to develop their speed and accuracy.

6. Spellings

These are to be practised at home to support our Literacy work in school. Spellings tests will take place on Mondays with new spellings also being given out that same day.

Should you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to come and see us.

Thank you
