Welcome to Year 4!
with Mrs Fairfax and Mrs Smith
Welcome back to everybody, for another exciting term ahead! I can’t believe that it is already well into January, and we are looking forward to our adventure in Malvern!
In Maths we will continue to follow Maths No Problem, and this will be alongside reasoning and problem solving using White Rose maths, amongst others. Please continue to practise times tables with your child, as they are improving massively, which in turn is helping their overall maths.
We continue to keep a close eye on developing and maintaining joined handwriting.
In English we are enjoying focusing on The Flood, which is a picture book, with beautiful illustrations. We will be developing our sentence structure while creating a descriptive narrative to engage the reader.
Each Thursday, we still have Forest School. However, as you know we now require the children to come dressed in their uniform as normal, and bring their Forest School clothes in a bag (long sleeved top and trousers with wellies). Wellies can be left in school, please ensure they are clearly named and in a carrier bag.
Our P.E lessons take place every Thursday but kit must be in school everyday. P.E kit should consist of: white t-shirt, dark blue or black shorts or joggers, black pumps, and trainers.
In science this half term, we will be exploring solids, liquids and gases.
Reading is homework.
Reading books and diaries should be in school every day, with any reading signed off by an adult, so we can record our daily readers and reward children appropriately for their efforts.
Please encourage your child to change their book when needed so that they experience a range of books.
Reading daily will develop your child's confidence and fluency in reading and writing so ask that your child reads at least three times per week to support their learning.
We will send spellings home every Friday and would like your child to practice every night ready for their test the following Friday. Children get rewards for achieving full marks so please encourage your child to practice and use these spellings daily.
We have set our new learning log topic which is linked to Natural disasters! Please see the letter which was sent home for more details. Due date TUESDAY 28th JANUARY
By the end of Year 4, it is expected that your child knows all their times tables up to 12 x 12 off by heart. Please support us by encouraging your child to practice daily.
All children should have their Times Table Rockstars log-in details which they can then use to aid their learning. Another helpful website is http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button.
