Year 3

Mrs Lucas and Miss Page invite year 3 parents to their reading workshop

Miss Johnston is excited to welcome you to the Year 3 class page!

Thank you for visiting!

We are beginning our year with an exciting Ancient Greeks learning challenge.

In maths we will be using Maths - No Problem to develop and deepen our understanding of number this term.

In English we will be developing our handwriting with a keen focus on joining. We will be developing our sentence structure while creating descriptive writing which engages the reader. We aim to develop our writing stamina so that we can write interesting narratives at length. Our class text is Greek Myths.

Our P.E lessons take place every Wednesday but kit must be in school everyday. P.E kit should consist of: white t-shirt, dark blue or black shorts or joggers, black pumps, and trainers.

In science the areas we will be covering are light & dark and electricity.

  • Reading is homework.

  • Reading books and diaries should be in school every day, with any reading signed off by an adult, so we can record our daily readers and reward children appropriately for their efforts.

  • Please encourage your child to change their book when needed so that they experience a range of books.

  • Reading daily will develop your child's confidence and fluency in reading and writing so ask that your child reads at least three times per week to support their learning.

We will send spellings home every Friday and would like your child to  practice every night ready for their test the following Friday. Children get rewards for achieving full marks so please encourage your child to practice and use these spellings daily.

Learning Log

We have set our new learning log topic which is All About Me. Your child can be as creative as they would like. Please see our letter home for other ideas. We look forward to seeing all the wonderful homework projects brought in. Please can your child bring their Learning Log in each Tuesday as we will work on their projects that day.

Times tables:

By the end of Year 3, it is expected that your child knows all their 3, 4 and 8 times tables off by heart.  Please support us by encouraging your child to practice daily.

All children should have their Times Table Rockstars log-in details which they can then use to aid their learning. Another helpful website is
