Welcome to Year 2's Class Page!

Welcome to Year 2's class page!

We have attached a newsletter for you to see what we will be learning this term with lots of exciting opportunities for the children.

Year 2 newsletter - Spring term

Mrs Lucas and Miss Page invite year 2 parents to their home reading parent workshop.

Our final newsletter for the year - Summer 2 newsletter!

Although last term was a short term it was a full packed half term with lots of fun activities whilst doing our SATs. The children worked extremely hard and we would like to congratulate the children on their hard work and effort.

Just before the end of term our value was 'perseverance', a very fitting value for Year Two and Year Six. Mrs. Sugars set the children a challenge of learning to try and tie their shoe laces. Well done to all those children that accomplished this and keep going the children who are still persevering!

Here is our Summer 1 newsletter!

This months value is 'Taking pride'.

During this month we are going to be working to take pride in our work and especially our presentation with our handwriting. Every week Miss. Hooper and I will be looking for brilliant presentation and handwriting to award children a handwriting certificate and new stationary to use in the classroom. Good luck to all the children in Year 2, we look forward to the rest of the month!

Looking ahead here is our curriculum map for the rest of the term...

Happy New Year!

It is now the start of Spring term and the children have settled in well to their first week back in school after a well-earned rest.

This term our topic is 'Castles, Knights and Dragons'. We have started our new book in English this week 'The Kiss That Missed' and the children have thoroughly enjoyed predicting what might happen in our story.

Independence Igloos

November's value was 'Responsibility'.

In year 2 we looked at how we could be more responsible in the classroom, around school and at home. We also discussed how we could be more independent with these responsibilities and therefore created our own 'Independent Igloos' to go with our theme of Penguins and Antarctica.

Our Excellent Emperor Penguin Factfiles!

Yesterday in English we used the Ipads to research Emperor penguins. We collected lots of facts and then sorted them into categories. Here are a few pictures from our English lesson.

The class have really enjoyed learning about Emperor penguins this week! We have been using the book below to immerse ourselves into the life of a baby Emperor penguin and we are getting ready to consolidate the facts we have learnt into a non-fiction fact file.

The book we are reading at the beginning of this half term - 'The Emperor's egg'

Welcome to Year Two!

The children had a brilliant first half term and we are very proud of all the children for their continuous hard work and dedication to schoolwork!

We had excellent attendance and reading at home last term, well done everyone and keep up the good work for this term!

Our topic this half term is Emperor Penguins and in English lessons we have started reading 'The Emperor’s Egg'.

The children are familiar with the animal, which has really helped to capture our imaginations, and the children are working towards creating a non-fiction page on this magnificent creature.

We hope to include this theme of Emperor penguins into our artwork and dance.

We have been learning to orally construct sentences, hear and write sounds in our words, apply our spelling rules and use description to describe characters and settings.

General Reminders…

  • The children will be doing PE on a Wednesday's and Friday's. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and that all items are clearly labelled. We encourage children to get changed quickly in school so that we have as much time as possible for our PE lessons!
  • Our Forest school session is on Tuesday afternoon. We will be using the allotment every week to explore, investigate and create! Children can come to school in their 'old' clothes, which are OK to get muddy please. They will need a pair of wellies. These can be left in the Welly Box outside the classroom with their name on.
  • Any letters or reply slips, which need to be returned, can be put in your child’s book bag. The children are encouraged to check them each morning and give things in before the register.
  • The children will be given their own water bottle to keep in class which they can access throughout the day and will change their water regularly.

We encourage independence in Year 2 and all children will be expected to change their home reading book when finished at times throughout the day. When they come into class they put their reading diary into the tray so they can be checked.

English

Our first topic in English was the book Traction Man by Nina Grey.

We had great fun looking at this book and discussing all of Traction Mans adventures with Scrubbing Brush.

To round up the topic we were visited by Activ8. A fantastic assault course that all the children enjoyed very much.

As you can see the staff enjoyed throwing the sponges at the end too.
