Year 1

Welcome to Year 1's Class Page!

Mrs Lucas and Miss Page invite the year 1 parents to their home reading workshop.

We had a fabulous Spring term and we have lots of exciting things happening this term!

Our new topic this half term is Animal Adventures and the book that we will be focusing on is called ‘Meerkat Mail’.

This topic has a Geography and science focus where we will explore the basic needs of animals and offspring & the structure of plants. We will take part in scientific investigations based around what plants need to grow. In Geography we will look at the wildlife from each continent and focus particularly on Africa and be able to use basic vocabulary to describe less familiar places.

In our Art & Design lessons we will be recreating/innovating images of animals and use different colour palettes and stencils to create shapes of animals.

In Maths we will be learning the place value of numbers to 100, learn to tell the time to the hour & half hour and how to use a calendar. The children will be encouraged to reason and explain their ideas using their mathematical knowledge.

How to help with your child’s learning:

Reading: Listen to your child read as often as possible. It really does have a huge impact on their progress in reading!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and speak to us!

Spring 2 Newsletter -Latest Information

This is our exciting Spring term homework that we would love all children to complete. We are looking forward to your creations!

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and we wish you all a Happy New Year!

We are excited to begin our new topic this Spring term based on the story 'The Kiss that Missed'.

Our Science, History, Art and Geography lessons will all base around our topic book.

In our English lessons we will be continuing to structure our sentences using capital letter, finger spaces and full stops, use a range of adjectives for description and use our phonics knowledge to hear and write our sounds in words.

Please could we ask for you to continue to read at home with your children at least 3x per week as this is essential for their development in reading, we will be choosing 1 child per week to be our superstar reader of the week.

Along with reading, children also have weekly spellings. Please encourage your children to practice their spellings as often as possible as we have our spelling test on a Friday!

Thank you for your support

Year 1 team

We've had a fantastic few weeks working on Traditional Tales.

The children have been working hard to write sentences to describe characters, settings and different parts of the story.

The children are continuing to work hard on their handwriting and spellings each week.

We are very impressed by the number of children that are working hard to read at least 3 times per week. Keep up the good work!!

This week we are focusing on the story The Ginger Bread Man.

This week we had the pleasure of Mrs. Mol joining us to make Gingerbread Men. All the children had great fun preparing and making the ginger bread men.
