What we are learning

We have had a very different start to the year with only some children in school and the rest of you carrying out home learning! We are very much missing you all and we can't wait to have you all back in Year 2 again as soon as we are able to.

We are however holding two Zoom meetings a day. Our morning session starts at 10:00am and our afternoon session starts at 1:10pm. All links to your zoom meeting will be posted on the Year 2 class dojo page. The morning session is to welcome you all, start off our day and carry out some virtual teaching to introduce our English home learning. Our second zoom session of the day is our story time session and our introduction to our afternoon activities.

This term, our challenge question is 'How can we tell people about different places of the world?'

Here is our learning for this half term:

English - Spring first half term

Class story - "The Emperor's egg" by Martin Jenkins

We will use the book ‘The Emperor’s egg’ story by Martin Jenkins to inspire our writing, focusing on different narratives using a range of punctuation, vocabulary and purpose.

We will begin by writing a recount from the perspective of the father penguin character from the text.

We will also be writing a non-fiction chronological report to inform people about Emperor penguins using formal language and features of a fact file.

English - Second half term

Class story - "Vlad and the Great Fire of London" by Kate Cunningham

                  - "Toby and the Great Fire of London" by Margaret Nash

We will be writing a diary entry and a newspaper report using these two books for inspiration in our writing. We will be learning how to create an effective description using adjectives and feelings with the use of the correct tense. We will be learning how to use grammar in our work to make the writing more purposeful including using expanded noun phrases, subordination and different sentence types.
