The Academy Council
The Academy Council is the name for the governing body of an academy and we work closely with the Headteacher and other staff to set a strategic direction for Foley Park Primary Academy. We act as a ‘critical friend’, complementing and enhancing the school leadership by making sure all statutory duties are met. These include appointing the Headteacher, providing support and challenge, and holding the school to account for its impact on improving outcomes for all pupils. This continues to be particularly important following the school’s "Journey to Good", and beyond.
The Headteacher, who is a member of the Academy Council, runs the school on a day to day basis. The Academy Councillors are responsible for the strategic overview of the school and for overseeing the curriculum. We also handle formal complaints, personnel issues, buildings, health and safety, policies and some disciplinary matters.
The Academy Council includes representation from school staff, the community and parents; people who have experience and skills that enable us to support and advise on school issues.
The Academy Council meets regularly and has a number of sub-committees which look in more detail at such areas as health and safety, disadvantaged pupils, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), safeguarding, and the curriculum. The Academy Council feeds into the Victoria Academy Trust Board.

Mr Mark Barker
“I am a parent of two children who attend the school. I am also an Academy Councillor. I have been a governor previously at other schools. I live locally and I see the school as an important part of the local community. Professionally I am an English teacher and leader with 20 years experience, working in a variety of schools at a secondary level. Currently I work in Sandwell.
I am committed to make Foley Park School as good as it can be. I have an interest in the curriculum, with particular focus on English, special education needs and disability (SEND), and safeguarding.”
Mrs Lindsay Pettifor (stepped down July 2021)

“I have been part of the Academy Council (and formerly the Governing Body) of Foley Park Primary Academy for eight years, firstly as a parent governor, and now as a co-opted community councillor. During this time, I have been part of the School’s journey to the award of ‘Good’ by Ofsted and the transition to academy status and the joining with Victoria Academies Trust. I became Chair three years ago and I am the link councillor for health and safety, EYFS and MFL.
I work in administration where my background is primarily higher education-based quality assurance and governance. I have lived in Foley Park for the last eight years and I am passionate about the School and its place in the local community. It is a privilege to see at close hand how hard the staff and supporters of the School work, and to see how much our children enjoy their lessons and the family feeling they experience every day by coming into Foley Park.”
Mrs Rachel Tucker
“I grew up and went to school in Worcestershire and now live locally. I am very proud to be an academy councillor at Foley Park Academy - a school that is committed to delivering the very best for it’s children and local community.
I have worked as a recruiter / headhunter for more than 20 years, mostly for local and central government and the third sector. I also sit on the board as a trustee for Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust.
As an academy councillor I have a particular interest in our safeguarding and special educational needs provision and history curriculum. I joined the Board of Governors in September 2014 and have been proud to have been a part of the Foley Park family, through our journey to ‘Good’ from Ofsted and what we have yet to achieve as part of the Victoria Academies Trust.”
Mrs Nicola Baddeley
"I have been teaching at Foley Park for five years now, having previously taught at a school in Worcester. This year, I have also taken on the role of SENDCo and I am part of the Senior Leadership Team.
I am proud to work for a school which is so caring and supportive of children and families in our school, and the local community. It is a pleasure to watch the children progress and become hard-working, polite young people. We, as staff, are constantly striving to ensure that all pupils are provided with Quality First Teaching in order for all children to be the best they can be and I’m encouraged to see that staff are held to account for this by the Academy Councillors. By working on the Academy Council team, I hope to continue encouraging the high quality provision within school."

"I work at Foley Park Primary Academy as a Teaching Assistant, and have done so since September 2017. My family and I moved to Kidderminster from Salford in 2016 and our three children joined Foley Park. Two have moved on to High School now with just our youngest still here.
I love the ethos of the school and am proud to promote it within my work-role, as a parent and as an Academy Councillor. I enjoy working as part of the team to ensure the school continues to expect and provide a safe, happy, ambitious and motivating environment for its children."
Mr Richard Collie
"I became a Councillor to help the school to push its boundaries in continuing to provide a safe and progressive learning environment not just for my grandchildren who attend the school but also for all pupils. Whilst I am the link councillor specifically for Science, IT and PE/Sport, I am interested in all aspects of the curriculum and the school day. I am always happy to talk about the school so feel free to stop me in the playground (Tuesdays and Wednesdays are when I can normally be spotted) to have a chat.
Before I retired I ran a management consultancy company for just over 20 years which focused very much on improving operational performance. I am married, have two daughters with one working at Kidderminster College and the other teaching a Year 2 class over in Bournville, Birmingham. Although a while back now, when my daughters were going to school both my wife and myself became heavily involved in their school, my wife as a governor whist I chaired the PTA for 6 years."
